How Many Bricks per Square Foot?
Standard modular brick with 3/8-inch mortar joints takes about 6.75 bricks per square foot of wall. Standard 8×8×16 concrete block takes 1.125 blocks per square foot.
Why 6.75?
A modular brick plus its mortar joint occupies 8 × 2⅔ inches of wall face, about 0.148 sq ft — so 1 ÷ 0.148 ≈ 6.75 bricks per sq ft. A block plus joint occupies 8 × 16 inches (0.889 sq ft), giving 1.125 blocks per sq ft.
