Wallpaper Roll Sizes and Coverage
In the US, wallpaper is usually priced per single roll but sold as a double roll. A single roll holds roughly 28–35 sq ft, of which about 25 sq ft is usable after trimming and pattern matching. A double roll gives about 50 usable sq ft.
| Roll | Typical size | Nominal coverage | Usable (planning) |
|---|---|---|---|
| US single roll | 20.5–27 in × 13.5–16.5 ft | 28–35 sq ft | ~25 sq ft |
| US double roll | 20.5–27 in × 27–33 ft | 56–70 sq ft | ~50 sq ft |
| European roll | 20.9 in × 32.8 ft (53 cm × 10 m) | ~57 sq ft | ~45–50 sq ft |
Pattern repeat reduces coverage
Each strip must line up with its neighbor, so the larger the repeat, the more paper is cut off. Plan on roughly 22 usable sq ft per single roll for a 7–12 inch repeat, 20 for 13–18 inches and 15 for repeats over 19 inches.
